Azawakh noun[ C ] uk /ˈæz.ə.wɑːk/ us /ˈæz.ə.wɑːk/ a type of dog from Africa with long, thin legs and an ability to run fast, bred for hunting and for guarding property : The Azawakh was a breed showing for the first time that year at Crufts, the world's biggest dog show. The Azawakh has been bred by the numerous nomadic tribes of the southern Sahara as a hunting and guard dog. Azawakhs are slender, elegant dogs whose thin skin allows their bone structure to show. Several new breeds of man's best friend - including the azawakh and the Portuguese Podengo - were on parade as the show entered its 113th year. The creature is a pure-bred Azawakh dog, a hunting companion of nomadic Arabs for centuries.
