Vaginosis is treated with antibiotics, and if left untreated can lead to infection during and after childbirth. Bacterial vaginosis is the most common cause of abnormal vaginal discharge in women of childbearing age. Vaginal discharge is normal and healthy, but if there is a change in the colour, amount, consistency, or smell, it could be a sign of bacterial vaginosis. Stress is also associated with higher rates of bacterial vaginosis.
