gallberry noun[ C or U ] uk /ˈɡɔːlˌber.i/ us /ˈɡɑːlˌber.i/ a North American evergreen bush (= one that never loses its leaves) with leaves like leather and black berries(= small, round fruits) : Inkberry, or gallberry, is an evergreen holly, and does well on drier soils. The gallberries restricted the view much more than I expected. Gallberry bushes dominated the landscape. The bench was half-hidden behind gallberry and palmetto. Gallberry fruits are eaten by a variety of birds, including wild turkey and quail. Light filtered through the leaves, allowing thickets of shrubs such as saw palmetto and gallberry to grow.
