In sheltered areas, both kingcup and celandine were in flower. The dyke sides were covered with brilliant yellow ribbons of kingcups. Kingcup (Caltha palustris) grows in clumps 30 to 50 centimetres high. People think of kingcup as a spring flower, but the double form often flowers again in August or September.
