kittel noun[ C ] uk /ˈkɪt.əl/ us /ˈkɪt̬.əl/ a white robe (= a long, loose piece of clothing) worn by traditional Jews on some religious occasions: On Yom Kippur, the rabbi wears a white robe called a kittel. Jewish males are buried in a tallit and sometimes also a kittel. In Orthodox synagogues, many men in the congregation wear a kittel. A kittel is worn by prayer leaders and some observant traditional Jews on the High Holidays. It is traditional for the head of the household to wear a kittel at the Passover seder in some communities.
