This stimulates the release of mucus to protect the parietal cells of the stomach. This is not accompanied by reduced parietal cell sensitivity to the hormone. Gastrin stimulates the parietal cells to secrete even more acid into the stomach lumen. This study shows that parietal cells are present from 13 weeks of gestation.
