Andesites are commonly porphyritic and consist of plagioclase, hornblende, and subordinate amounts of clinopyroxene, quartz and biotite phenocrysts. Both are massive and porphyritic, with euhedral phenocrysts (up to 0.12 cm) of zoned olivine (about 20 %), leucite (about 5 %), and phlogopite (about 2-5 %). The basalts are generally porphyritic, and phenocryst assemblages show a gradual change from olivine to olivine-clinopyroxene-oxides and olivine-clinopyroxene-plagioclase. It is a very distinctive hypidiomorphic, coarse-grained porphyritic granite. |
