It was completely absent from the tecta of the embryos, even though it was still present in the rhombencephala and spinal cords. The pons with the cerebellum forms that part of the hindbrain or rhombencephalon known as the metencephalon. The rhombencephalon receives its name from the diamond shape which it presents when seen from above. The rhombencephalon occupies the posterior fossa of the cranial cavity and lies below a fold of dura mater.
