a type of small terrier(= a dog that was once used to chase animals into or out of holes) originally from England and Australia that has a mostly white coat and short legs:
The Russell terrier was bred to have shorter legs so as to be able to fit itself into fox dens.
The Russell Terrier is regarded as a distinct breed from the similarly named Jack Russell Terrier and Parson Russell Terrier, partly because it is smaller.
