sacculus noun[ C ] anatomy specializeduk /ˈsæk.jə.ləs/ us /ˈsæk.jə.ləs/pluralsacculiuk /ˈsæk.jə.laɪ/ us /ˈsæk.jə.laɪ/ a small bag-like structure in the body, especially the smaller of the two parts of the membranous labyrinth in the inner ear: You have a sacculus, which you mainly use for getting information about the position of your body in three-dimensional space. These produce the sacculi that are characteristic of the caecum and colon. Researchers have discovered that the sacculus, an organ in the ear that responds to frequencies commonly found in music, is connected to the pleasure centre of the brain. In an adult, the connection between the sacculus and ductus cochleae is relatively narrow. This leads up into the caecal pouch, called the sacculus laryngis, or the laryngeal pouch.
