carillonneur noun[ C ] (alsocarilloneur)uk /kærˌɪl.jəˈnɜːr/ us /ˌkær.ə.lɑːˈnɝː/ a person who plays a carillon(= a set of bells, usually hung in a tower, usually played with a keyboard and parts that you press with your foot): The carillonneur plays the instrument using hands and feet, as with an organ. Carillonneurs from all round the world gathered for the festival. As well as an organist and assistant to pump the bellows, the church employed a carilloneur and a bellringer, who rang the largest of the bells for certain occasions. He took over the post in 1997, following the sad loss of the long-time carillonneur.
