understand each other/one another phrase When two people understand one another, they both know what the other means and wants and they have an agreement: 彼此理解 I wanted to make sure that we want the same things, and that we really understand each other. It would be best to talk in person to make sure we really understand each other. When we first met, we did not understand each other. When people spend time together, they often begin to understand one another. Being able to speak openly is crucial if we want to understand one another. I thought we understood one another, but I was clearly mistaken. See also
