A White Shorthorn has two copies of the white gene. Blue Grey cattle are produced from Galloway cows put to Whitebred Shorthorn bulls. Whitebred Shorthorn bulls were introduced to improve the beef quality of some of the old dairy herds. White Shorthorn are homozygous for an allele which gives a white coat colour.
