The myeloid stem or progenitor cells give rise to myeloblasts. Acute myeloid leukaemia is characterized by the pathological expansion of immature cells, myeloblasts, that invade the bone marrow and expand into the blood. The bone marrow biopsy showed an abnormally high myeloblast ratio. As the condition evolves, dysfunctional white blood cells called myeloblasts start to grow.
