The antinuclear antibody test looks for a group of autoantibodies that attack substances found in the centre of all cells. The patient's antinuclear antibody and uric acid levels were normal. Rheumatoid factor and antinuclear antibody were not measured routinely, but remained negative in the few patients tested.
