Writing
Different styles of English are used for different types of writing. Writing can be formal or informal, depending on who our readers and listeners are, for what purpose we use the language and the situation in which we use it. Punctuation is an important aspect of writing. The most common punctuation marks in English are: capital letters and full stops, question marks, commas, apostrophes, colons and semi-colons, exclamation marks and quotation marks. There are rules of punctuation that have to be followed; but there are also punctuation conventions that give writers greater choice. Click on a topic to learn more about writing.
