kenosis noun[ U ] religion specializeduk /kɪˈnəʊ.sɪs/ us /kɪˈnoʊ.sɪs/ (in Christianity) the fact of someone giving up something, especially used to refer to Jesus Christ giving up part of his nature as a god and becoming a human: 神性放弃(神学用语,尤指耶稣基督放弃自己作为神的一部分本性而成为人的样子) Kenosis means the giving up of divine glory by the eternal Son of God when he became incarnate.神性放弃是指永生的上帝之子在道成肉身时放弃了神的荣耀。 Kenosis involves a gradual stripping of the personality, a gradual process of detachment from inessentials: possessions, clothing, material things, affections, family, power. The key word to explain this loss of self is kenosis – the word translated as "emptying" in Philippians. Finally the Son decided to take birth among us, and emptied himself (Greek kenosis) for that purpose. In his Gospel, St John mimics the kenosis (emptying) of God the Word, who takes on the poverty of human existence. |
