sub-literature noun[ U or S ] disapproving(alsosubliterature)uk /ˌsʌbˈlɪt.rə.tʃər/ us /ˌsʌbˈlɪt̬.ɚ.ə.tʃɚ/ written works, especially popular writing, that are not considered of such high artistic value as literature : Some novels are seen as works of art, but others are "pulp fiction" or "sub-literature". There's also a large sub-literature of almanacs and gift books. Much of her work got shoved into the sci-fi corner or labelled as subliterature. These works have been critically ignored as having little or no literary value, as sub-literature. There were also whole classes of sub-literature such as cheap romances.
